To say fourth months was rough would be an understatement. Never again in my life will I say babies have it easy. The amount of mental developments going on inside their little brains make so much sense now as to why they’re fussy or moody. By the time 4 months rolls around, they’re about to hit the fourth mental leap, a growth spurt AND a sleep regression.
And if all that wasn’t enough, we diagnosed Bailee as a “high-need” baby. Meaning that she is unpredictable, attention needy and overly draining on us. But I’ll get to that in a later post. Thank goodness I’m lucky enough to be a SAHM, because this child likes to stay busy constantly. I get to learn what she likes and doesn’t like real quick.
However, there’s a lot of goodness that comes with all of these changes. I get to see my baby smile on the daily (and it’s a beautiful smile). We get to have little conversations (like solving world problems or just hers). I watch as each day she gets smarter and stronger (that leg strength is fierce). And I get to see her create a bond with her daddy that just makes my heart skip a beat.
Sleep: Now I’m super convinced she hates naps. It’s like she thinks she’s going to miss something. She fights every nap and even bedtime. She’s up at night anywhere from 12-3a and then every 1-2 hours after that. I’ll usually let her sleep on me from about 5-8a.
Feeding: Breastfeeding every 2-3 hours during the day, some days every 1-2 hours. We upped her bedtime bottle to 6oz of formula with rice cereal. Of course, she chugs it like a champ.
Growth: At her 4 month well check, she weighed in at 13lb 9oz (34th percentile) and measured 23.5” long (14th percentile). It’s looking like she’s going to be a petite little thing.
Strength: She is crazy strong! She holds her head up on her own. We got a Bumbo seat for her and she loves sitting in it. She holds her head up at 90* for periods at a time while on her tummy. We got her an exersaucer activity center and a walker because she loves standing. And two days before she turned 4 months, she rolled over from tummy to back! Now if only she could get over her bottom arm rolling from back to tummy…
Interests: Being outside is her favorite. She loves watching everything around her moving, especially the trees. She’s at the stage of grabbing things and putting them in her mouth, but her hands are still a contender for top spot. She smiles super big when you act like you’re eating her toes and fingers and when you play the air drums with her arms.
Bailee is becoming quite the character and developing more every day. She has brought so many smiles, tears (of joy and frustration) laughter and love to my heart that I never thought possible. I hate to see her get bigger, but I can’t wait to watch her blossom into a beautiful, little girl.
Ready to see where 5 months takes us!
xoxo,
